OnePlus, despite being a new player to the market, was able to become a flagship competitor when it comes to the world of smartphones. The latest device from the company, OnePlus 6T, is about to be launched with amazing features like on-screen fingerprint scanner and faster charging. However, the company apparently does not want to limit its areas to smartphone industry. According to the latest updates from Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, the company is now working on a smart TV. OnePlus believes that it would be able to establish intelligent connectivity and connected human experience through this device.
“We believe your TV has the potential to be so much more than where you watch your favorite shows,” said the CEO, “since 2013, we have focused on building the best smartphone possible. In the process, our team and community have learned a tremendous amount about software, hardware, design, product development, and delivering on the best possible user experience. These efforts — all of those long nights and weekends in the office contributed by this team and community have paved an excellent foundation on which to build the OnePlus TV experience.” While it’s clear that the forum post doesn’t reveal much specifics about the device, but it’s surely a great step for OnePlus.
Considering the journey that OnePlus has taken so far, OnePlus TV would have something awesome to offer to the audience. It should be noted that OnePlus, which used to use CyanogenMod on its devices, developed something called OxygenOS, which offered a unique experience. This experience would surely be beneficial for OnePlus when it comes to developing a Smart TV. Whether the Smart TV belongs to the premium market or stays budget-friendly is another question. OnePlus has not revealed which markets it will be focusing on either. Carl Pei, however, mentioned earlier that the company is working on some prototype devices which don’t belong to the smartphone category.
