A total of 500 Airbus employees at the Hamburg-Finkenwerder plant are in quarantine, after 21 of them tested positive for coronavirus, according to the German broadcaster NDR, the spokesman for the German health authority Martin Helfrich, said station reported.

Apparently, the infected worked in two corridors. To be sure, all employees who had contact have now been isolated and are being quarantined at home. According to Airbus, the effects on productions will be examined.

It is not yet clear whether some of those infected may be carriers of the mutated virus. The mutated variant is considered to be significantly more contagious. In the next week, so-called sequencing will be carried out to determine the virus more precisely.

The health authority ordered this examination. The result should be available in the middle of next week at the earliest. The genetic material of the pathogen is examined during sequencing. The procedure is more complex than a normal coronavirus test.
