China is now seeing a worrying trend in the case of HIV/AIDS reports. According to the latest reports, China has seen an increase of 14% of citizens who have HIV/AIDS. Compared to the population in the country, an amount of 820,000 Chinese citizen are infected by this serious disease. It should also be noted that the new 40,000 cases were reported in the second quarter of 2018 only. This clearly shows that as time progresses, the number of HIV/AIDS cases is also increasing exponentially. Marking another change in the history, most of these cases were transmitted via sexual relations.

In the past, however, the AIDS cases in China were mostly contributed by blood transfusions. Apparently, the country had taken right precautions to prevent this and, as a result, the number of people who got AIDS via blood transfusions hit a record low of zero this time. At the same time, however, transmission of the same via sex has increased noticeably. It also needs to be noted that LGBT community is more vulnerable to the spreading of AIDS via sex. Although decriminalized, homosexuality is considered subordinate and often looked down upon in China. Unprotected sex is the major reason for the transmission of HIV.

China has been trying to cure the issue of the increasing HIV/AIDS infection for a long period of time. From 2003, the government has been offering universal access to HIV medication and many methods for cure. In spite of all these, there is no decrease in the number of newly-acquired HIV/AIDS cases. There is also another trend that is enhancing the issue. Because most of China has a conservative attitude, it’s common for men, who are actually homosexual, to end up marrying women. This is one of the major reasons how HIV/AIDS is passed onto others. China is now planning to proceed with more steps to combat the situation.
