The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has announced that it will implement new artificial intelligence (AI) technology at the boarding gates of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), with the intention of reducing wait times and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
The GTAA and Swiss aviation software company Assaia International AG, according to an announcement at YYZ Terminal 1, will implement Assaia’s Apron AI Turnaround Control technology across the 106 gates of the airport.
The cutting-edge technology uses artificial intelligence to continuously track aircraft. The resulting data is used to identify problems that can slow down gate turnarounds and can be fixed. The product is intended to work on the functional effectiveness of the air terminal, as well as upgrade traveler security and lessen the airplane’s effect on the climate.
Darin Juby, GTAA Program Director of Digitalization, said that, this data provides the single source of truth covering all turnaround operations. As a result, it is an essential component of our Airport Collaborative Decision-Making project. All of these hinges on cooperating with our airline partners to increase resilience and efficiency.
The technology will also monitor the performance of ground operations, such as baggage handlers and catering supplies, in addition to tracking aircraft locations and activities. A centralized dashboard containing all of this data will assist airport management in determining where delays are most likely to occur and addressing these issues, resulting in a faster and smoother airport experience for passengers and improved flight operations.
